IN SEARCH OF HEALING

Inspired by the healing prophecies and remedies of Edgar Cayce, Dr. McGarey has written about his experiences as a physician dealing with his patients in a holistic way. He feels that healing the body is dealing not just with a disease, but with an entire life. He sees life as an adventure in consciousness with illness and healing as parts of that journey.

"We grow in awareness of the Creative Forces even when we don't quite understand it. If we are gentle, it happens. If we are kind to another person, it happens. If we are patient with the driver of another car trying to get to work, that awareness grows. And it becomes, more and more, a healing force."

. . . Some of the book's more interesting contents were:

- Arthritis seen as a disease resulting from blocked channels of elimination.

- Sin from past lives is dealt with as karma in this one.

- Changing a persistent angry thought pattern can relieve high blood pressure.

- Exercise or you will stiffen up and be sore. If you can't exercise regularly, have regular body movement treatments (osteopathic, chiropractic or physical therapy).

- To feel really well, you must keep physical elimination processes in shape and also eliminate hatred, anger, worry.

- By compliance with the universal spiritual influence, one awakens any atomic center necessary to cure any pathological force within one's body.

- The Life Force is contacted through prayer, meditation and living your ideals.

- The immune system is enhanced by positive emotional patterns and attitudes and by meditation.

- Healing can come from the laying on of hands, from prayer, from physical therapy or from surgery. What matters is the awakening of one's spiritual nature and then healing follows.

- People are eternal beings born into each earth life in order to learn to love.

- As spiritual beings, we must choose an ideal that moves us toward the light and then we must continually measure our physical, mental and spiritual lives against that ideal.

In the balance, the book's drawbacks are mainly organizational and stylistic, with its rewards far outnumbering them. All in all, this is truly a fascinating book and one well worth reading.
